"This struggle, under conditions of an overwhelming predominance of imperialist Crusader relationships on the world arena, must inevitably lead to explosions, that is, internally to civil wars and externally to revolutionary wars. Therein lies the permanent character of the Islamic revolution as such… The Islamic revolution begins on the national arena, it unfolds on the international arena, and is completed on the world arena."
Certain words, but not the sentence structure or meaning, may have been changed.
The Pine Marten, who pointed me to this quote in the first place, has now written a related and interesting article.
Leon Trotsky. Next question.
Jemima Khan nee Goldsmith :-)
Foucault? I know he was hot for Khomeini.
Karl Marx
It was Trotsky. Google "Permanent Revolution". Better yet, take the last sentence and replace "Islamic" with "socialist".
Tsch! Don’t you kids read Trotsky any more?
Can you boys help me with something? How many communist countries are there left? So far I’ve got China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea and Vietnam. Is Zimbabwe supposed to be communist? Are there any other African countries? What is happening in Belarus? And what do you know about that place Transnistria?
Thanks if you can help. If not, the curse of Cromwell on you.
By the way, I kinda need to know in about the next 45 minutes.
Well, I think Moldova is formally communist, though their communist government was elected. Does that still count?
The Ethiopian government is formally communist too, I believe. Also, Alex Jones assures me that the US government is communist.
Someone on Normblog called Canada "socialist." Will that do? And isn’t Libya nominally some kind of People’s thing?
There are quite a few places that are nominally people’s things without being exactly communist, I think. Eritrea for one. Myanmar maybe. Hey Harry, maybe you should have a "people’s things" category.
Thanks. A friend was doing a thing about tourism to socialist countries. I wouldn’t fancy Eritrea.
