"Remember when it used to be the left who blamed everything on the evils of the capitalist media?" – Sonic at Harry’s.
It’s amusing that the pro-war mainstream have become deluded fantasists who believe in ideology-driven nonsense and massive conspiracy theories (all the Muslims! All coming to get us! All the media! In league with the Muslims!), while the other side have become the realists who recognise that the power of Our Enemies is generally exaggerated, that governments will fuck up most things they touch, and that any event described as a conspiracy is usually best explained by incompetence.
I’m sure the stereotypes used to go the other way round…
Bizarre bleating indeed!
harumph!

You’re saying that the modern Left believe that government tends to fuck things up? That jibes with my observations.
Not on most issues, but yes when it comes to The War On Terror/Iraq/whatever the excuse is this week.
I hardly think people like Terrance in the comments at Harry’s count as mainstream.
On the other hand the left seem to believe all sorts of rubbish about Zionists/Jews/Neocons. It is also interesting how right wing conspiracies about issues like fluoride in the water have moved to the left.
" I hardly think people like Terrance in the comments at Harry’s count as mainstream."
Oh I don’t know. He is now the most prolific commentator there, and the Harry’s Place logic is if someone likes you, then you support them (see Ken Livingstone).
lol, Benjamin Mackie is therefore mainstream on this basis.
As for Livingstone, he invited Al Qarwadi, excuse spelling, not the other way round.

Are you really foolish enough to believe that the Anti-war lobby are ‘realists’? The people who stand up now and say ‘Bring the troops home tomorrow!’? We all know the WMD argument was flawed, but when it comes down to it a dictator is gone, and the idea f bringing troops home (as RESPECT, Lib Dems etc are asking) ASAP would be leaving the Iraqis in the shit with a militia of crazies who put the ‘mental’ in ‘fundamentalist’. Now, is it realistic to support the military efforts in Iraq?
