Mark Lawson says it all on the recent outbreak of philistinism and pandering to religious loons. If you disagree with him, you’re a cunt.

I’m well within the bounds (knicker elastic, I guess) of being a cunt anyway, so I’ll disagree with him on one thing – I’m not aware of one recent occasion when the cultural powers-that-be have given in to Christians. If anything, they pride themselves on being "challenging" there.
On the wider point, I agree entirely – but who set us up for all this cultural sensitivity stuff? I feel a reworking of that religious loon Martin Niemoller coming on…
Pope Town.
Ok, you got me there John – although only at the broadcaster’s distribution. The likelihood is that it’ll appear on DVD pretty soon, and will find its way to late night broadcast in the fullness of time. It’s a very exceptional case, though, surely? At the same time as Beszti there were protests in Scotland about a play depicting Christ as gay; if I go to HMV I can buy Jesus of Montreal on DVD. Nobody would even bat an eyelid about The Da Vinci Code (nor should they – regardless of how you view its take on Christianity, it’s a shit novel).
