Harry’s Place is an excellent blog, but it’s infuriating the way they turn off the comments when people start to be moderately offensive, as in this post (among others). Thicker skins required in the pro-war left camp, methinks.
(I hope no-one’s seriously going to claim that the Norht Ossetian school terrorist outrage *isn’t* an appropriate opportunity to discuss Russia’s brutal and failed counter-terrorist policy. What more appropriate opportunity could there possible be?)
I thought it was a good call on Harry’s part, myself. The comments thread looked like it was going to descend into the usual mud-flinging, and with bodies still being found, that wasn’t the time for it.
That’s not in any way a criticism of the posts you made, and of course this needs debating, I just thought it was a good call to close the comments for today.
For the record, this is what regular Harry’s Place commentator ‘Dave’ had to say about the massacre in Be’er Sheva (sixteen dead, ninety-plus wounded) a few days ago:
"If martyrdom operations is what it is going to take for the Zionists to come to the realisation that Palestinian lives are just as worthy as their own and thus bring an end to the Nazism and state organised and sponsored terrorism against them, then people should get off their moral high horses and excuse Hamas’ act of war.".
Given that certain people are demonstrably prepared to post utterly callous, inhuman crap like this on his blog, I can quite see why Harry decided that comments were unnecessary in the present situation – at least until it’s played out and we have a clearer idea of what exactly happened.
