Uninspired

Can’t think of anything to say today. This is a shame: harmless transactions that annoy bigots are fun. Employees either lie or are mad (I’m trying to think of any working hours more horrible than 6AM-3PM, but failing). And this story is both sad news, and almost certainly the only way the communists can get anyone to pay any attention to them these days…

  1. I have a flexitime arrangement at my workplace which lets you come in between 8-9.30 and leave between 4 and 6. This isn’t quite as insane as starting at 6AM, but I would say more people took the opportunity to start and finish early rather than the opposite.

Not me, of course. I shamble in on the dot of 9.30 and have the benefit of an empty office when everyone buggers off home at or before 5.

  2. The study found that most workers thought they worked best between 6am and 3pm rather than nine to five.

Only one in 20 said they were at their most efficient after 3pm, while half said they were best working from home.

No, I’m sorry, but this has to a joke. "Half said they were best working from home": please! I sometimes "work" from home: especially when a test-match is on, say. In between getting up late, having a long breakfast, making numerous cups of tea, playing with my CD collection and endlessly browsing the internet, I do sometimes manage a bit of work in there. Unlike in the office, where I am far less productive, what with having nothing to do except my work.

As for getting up at 6am: erm, well, if I have to catch a plane I can manage it. But I’m hardly in a state to do any meaningful work, what with having to drink coffee endlessly just to keep my eyes open… Surely I’m not alone in being a night person?

  3. I certainly work better from about 9pm till 3am. Such is the consequence of years spent just meeting deadlines. But it is hell when you live with a teacher.
