  1. What a fantastic idea – show your solidarity with the Muslim community, have a tasty, good value meal AND drink cheap booze from the off license, too. Triple bargain!

The second point is much more worrying – I was going to go down the pub this lunchtime, but I have a nasty feeling the landlord might have voted differently from me. So I might have to forego the pint and stand outside the place waving a placard and shouting ‘fascist’ instead.

  2. Don’t forget that most pubs are in fact owned by breweries, and by extension, shareholders. Of course, at some level, that means our building society accounts, but the board members are unlikely to have voted with the Drink-soaked TROTS for WAR. Placards it is then, and mine’s a pint of home-brew.

  3. No Dave, home-brew is facist too, unless it’s scrumpy made from apples which have fallen on public land. To drink anything else – for example, home brew made from a ‘kit’ in a plastic so-called ‘container’ – would be to sell-out to the dark side.

In the meantime, I’m getting bloody thirsty here…

  4. I believe CAMRA was started as an offshoot of the SWP – Roger Protz was certainly a member of the latter at one point. So that’s all real ale out the window, I’m afraid.

  5. There’s a gap in the market for "Decent Dinners", telling you where to go for a meal that has been prepared under Enlightenment Liberal conditions. Perhaps we could even put together a "Decent Guide" travelogue series to compete with the Rough Guides. I volunteer for the railway section.

  6. Indeed, and of the WRP before that, hence the well-known song:

Oh there were days when we were lots and lots,
Such is the fate of tiny bands of Trots,
But never mind we’ve still got Roger Protz.*
    Says Gerry Healy,
    Says Gerry Healy.

*Modified on Protz’s defection to SWP forerunners IS to But never mind, let’s beat up Roger Protz.

    (I’d name the hymn-tune but I can’t remember what it’s called.)
