Good news everybody: Google has UK-ised its Local and Maps services. The local search is better than anything I’ve ever used, and the maps interface is far better than Streetmap (realtime scrolling – wahey!).
So, this is where I’m off to tonight, and this is how I’m going to get there (unless I get lazy and take some form of public transport…)
Unfortunately, the mappers have made some slightly odd decisions about what to include on their greater-scale maps. Spot the missing city. Diamond Geezer has more (latter via Gert).

Even if the city’s name has had to be deleted from the top-level map in order to make room for the important word, "M40", the streetmaps of Oxford are excellent.
Though they do tell me that my employer, Magdalen College, is in the middle of the River Cherwell, which I hadn’t noticed up to now.

If you zoom right out on the UK map, you find the entire globe is scrollable.
North America and the UK appear in their correct positions, but no other countries appear.
I think the aim is to cover the entire globe, which would be some accomplishment, especially when one considers its free.
It’s pretty weird how the A20 hurtles out into the English Channel. I’ll have to try doing that next time I’m in Kent!
