Odd standards

Right-wing hawk Jonah Goldberg seems to be claiming that the President of the United States should be held to *lower* standards of truthfulness than a TV anchorman.

This seems, to put it mildly, an unusual perspective (via Matt Yglesias).

  1. Yes. The President is involved in politics, national security, partisan dealings, etc…

If the POTUS told us all everything we knew, we wouldn’t need him.

A journalist has different responsibilities. Do I need to explain those to you?

  2. Did you read Goldberg’s piece? Obviously the President isn’t obliged to tell the public everything he knows, but there’s a big difference between *not telling the whole truth* and *saying things that are false*.
