Meanwhile, although I don’t trust the media unreservedly, I trust articles that have been published in the Times and not refuted more than random assertions made by anonymous people in my comments section. Perhaps you could provide some kind of evidence that the Times story is incorrect?
]]>An excellent point, though.
]]>Also the Soham murders where in august 2002, and in november of the same year Myra Hindley died, leaving a convenient vacancy for a witch-monster-hate-figure. I think Maxine Carr can count herself pretty unlucky on this count as well.
One more thought: the tabloid press have covered this story with even less objectivity or rationality than usual, which also might explain the mobs’ preoccupation with her. You’ve got to feel sorry for her I think.

]]>I recall a recent episode of Question Time when the panel where asked whether or not Maxine Carr deserved anonymity. To be fair, every single one of them pointed out exactly the same points you’ve just illustrated. But it’s a woman in the audience who sticks in the mind. There was such a violent hatred in her voice when she spoke about Carr and how she hoped "that evil woman" would be hounded and "get what’s coming to her".
She really didn’t seem to have the capacity even to grasp the fact that Maxine Carr "hasn’t done much". It reminded me a little of the two minute hate from 1984 for some reason.
