I had to drive a truck into central London yesterday, and was really surprised how clear the roads were – at least, the way I was going. I came in from Manston airport (near Ramsgate) along the M2/A2/A202. I expected gridlock, but (apart from the usual slows in Peckham) had no real trouble until I hit the police cordons at Victoria.
There was quite a bit of traffic going everywhere else, just not the way I was going.

]]>Spot on. Two words spring to mind – ‘congestion charging’.
Of course, I’d get bollocked for saying it was the road lobby, because it’s not PC to point the finger at them. So I’ll say ‘…but it was probably Islamists’ just to cover my arse.
]]>But you honestly wouldn’t have realised that anything was wrong, apocalyptic headlines aside.
